PZ19 Carburetor Fitment and Measurement Guide

PZ19-style carburetors are used on many small motorcycles, pit bikes, ATVs, go-karts and horizontal-shaft engines. The “PZ19” label describes a general carburetor style and nominal bore, but it does not guarantee that every PZ19 carburetor has the same flange, choke, cable or jetting.

What to identify before ordering

Record the engine and equipment information, then inspect the original carburetor. Check:

  • Engine displacement and model
  • Equipment make, model and year
  • Carburetor markings or reference numbers
  • Manual lever choke or remote cable choke
  • Hand-throttle or thumb-throttle cable end
  • Intake mounting style and bolt spacing
  • Air-filter mounting diameter
  • Fuel inlet and overflow-hose direction

Measurements that matter

Use a caliper where possible and compare the replacement listing with the original carburetor:

  • Engine-side bore or outlet diameter
  • Air-filter-side inlet diameter
  • Center-to-center mounting-hole spacing
  • Mounting-flange thickness
  • Overall length
  • Throttle-cable cap thread and cable-end shape
  • Intake-manifold or spacer dimensions

Nominal bore size alone is not a complete fitment specification.

Choke and throttle differences

PZ19 carburetors can be equipped with a lever choke on the body or provisions for a remote choke cable. Throttle-slide caps and cable ends can also differ. Confirm that the existing controls can attach and move through their full range without binding.

Jetting and tuning expectations

A physically compatible carburetor might still require tuning for the engine, intake, exhaust, elevation and climate. Avoid assuming that the installed jets are correct for every application. Begin with the equipment manufacturer’s specification where available, check for intake leaks, and make tuning changes carefully.

Do not use an oversized jet to mask a restricted fuel supply, blocked passage, air leak, weak ignition or incorrect valve adjustment.

Common installation problems

  • Intake gasket installed backward or leaking
  • Throttle slide inserted in the wrong orientation
  • Cable adjusted too tightly, causing a high idle
  • Fuel or vent hoses kinked
  • Dirty fuel introduced into the new carburetor
  • Air filter or intake boot not fully seated
  • Float bowl tilted because of an incorrect manifold angle

Pre-start checklist

  1. Turn off the fuel and disconnect the spark-plug lead before service.
  2. Photograph the original cable, choke and hose routing.
  3. Compare every critical measurement before installation.
  4. Clean the fuel tank, line and filter if contamination is present.
  5. Confirm that the throttle returns fully when released.
  6. Check for fuel leaks before starting.
  7. Warm the engine before evaluating idle and response.
